Legality Of Sports Betting - Ohio

Ohio's online sports gambling system will go live in January 2023 after state legislators worked out the kinks. Does Ohio permit sports betting?

Shortly, sports betting will be legit in the Buckeye State. Now, no sports betting operations can be found anywhere in the state. House Bill 29 was approved by both houses of the Ohio parliament and signed into law by Governor Mike DeWine on December 22, 2021. In January of 2023, the market will open for business.

When can we expect to see sports betting in Ohio?

Online and in-person gambling in Ohio will be live on January 1, 2023. The OCCC revealed the time and day in June. The Ohio Casino Control Commission has until that date to begin offering sports betting, as required by House Bill 29.

At launch, Ohio may host up to 25 separate online sportsbooks.

If a site wants to go up on January 1, an application must be submitted by July 15. It is not assured that the same launch timeframe will apply to any applications submitted after that date.
